RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will look to get its first win ever against in-state rival Morehead State when the Colonels open up OVC play against the Eagles on Friday at EKU Soccer Field. EKU (2-5-1) has dropped four straight while Morehead enter the match at 3-7 after falling to Illinois State on Wednesday. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
The Colonel defense has been impressive since the season began. Led by junior defenders
Jessica Goshert and
Eva Hollenberg, EKU’s backline has only allowed nine goals through eight games this year. Sophomore keeper
Stephanie Lynch has also contributed to that low number, starting every game in goal so for the Colonels and making 50 saves.
Offensively, the Colonels are led by a host of players. Senior forward
Kayla Swearingen, freshman midfielder
Heather Bruce, junior midfielder
Lauren Imsande and senior midfielder
Laura Caldon have all scored goals on the season, while sophomore forward
Alex Hartwick and freshman midfielder
Jessica Reed lead the Colonels with one assist each.
Morehead leads the overall series between the two schools, 3-0.
Friday is also
Youth Day at EKU Soccer Field. Admission to the match is free, and there will be a free youth clinic and autograph session for children under the age of 12 after the match.
No prior registration is required. Please join the Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team for a night of family fun this Friday!
