MOREHEAD, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky shot 29 percent in a 63-46 loss to Morehead State Saturday night at Johnson Arena. The Lady Colonels (6-12, 3-6 OVC) were led by
Ilona Muszak’s 18 points. Brittany Pittman contributed a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Eagles (12-9, 6-3 OVC).
Nadia Mossong finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for EKU. Chynna Bozeman scored 20 points and dished out five assists for MSU.
Eastern shot 21.7 percent in the first half and finished 15-for-52 from the field and 6-of-25 from three-point range. After making 35.7 percent of its first half shots, Morehead State shot 60 percent in the second half.
In the first half, neither team led by more than four points until a lay-up by Connie Buchanan put Morehead State in front by six, 19-13, with 3:47 to go before halftime. MSU ended the first half on a 16-2 run. The Lady Colonels made only one field goal in the final nine minutes.
The Eagles went on top by nine on a pair of free throws by Pittman with just over a minute to go. A three-pointer by Tiffanie Stephens with 39 ticks on the clock sent Morehead State to the locker room in front by 12, 27-15.
With a pair of unanswered baskets to start the second half, the Eagles stretched the run to 20-2. Tiffany Hamilton’s bucket with 18:42 left in the game pushed the home team in front by 16, 31-15.
Eastern Kentucky mustered an 8-0 run to stay in the game. Muszak connected on a pair of three-pointers, with the second cutting the deficit to eight, 31-23, with 15:49 left to play.
Pittman knocked down two free throws a little over a minute later to send MSU in front by 11 and the Eagles maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the game. A jumper by Stephens extended the margin to 19, 47-28, with 9:16 to go. Morehead State took its largest lead, 21 points, on a basket by Bozeman with just over three and a half minutes to play.
After concluding a stretch of four straight road games, the Lady Colonels will be back in McBrayer Arena on Tuesday to host Austin Peay. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
