Game Notes
RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky will try to extend its winning streak to two and even up its conference record when Tennessee Tech visits McBrayer arena on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (3-12, 1-3 OVC) are riding a six-game losing skid, including three straight conference losses. The Lady Colonels (5-8, 2-3 OVC) are coming off a win over Jacksonville State.
On Thursday, Eastern Kentucky used a 10-0 run late in the game to take a 13-point lead but had to hold off a rally by Jacksonville State to secure a 67-62 win at McBrayer Arena.
Nadia Mossong scored a game-high, and career-high, 25 points for EKU. The sophomore made 5-of-8 attempts from the field and went 14-for-16 from the free throw line. She also had seven rebounds and five assists.
Kayla Drake scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Lady Colonels.
Cherie White finished with nine points, nine boards and four steals.
EKU went 27-for-32 (84.4 percent) from the free throw line.
Tennessee Tech leads the all-time series 54-19. The last meeting between the two teams came on Feb. 2, 2008, TTU won 77-64 in Cookeville. The Golden Eagles have won six of the last seven in the series and are 16-13 in games played in Richmond since 1980.
Senior guard Blair Bowens leads Tech with an average of 13.8 points per game, but a pair of post players could prove to be a tough test for the Lady Colonels.
Sophomore, 6-foot forward, Jasmine White is the team’s second leading scorer (9.4 ppg) and top rebounder (6.5 rpg). Junior center Vivian Nwosu stands 6-foot-3. She has only averaged 6.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for the season, but has scored in double figures in three of the last five games.
Against Morehead State on Thursday, Nwosu finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She scored a season-best 15 points against Middle Tennessee five games ago.
As a team, the Golden Eagles average 59.9 points per game and have been held to 55.8 points per game by conference teams. TTU averages 22 turnovers per game but are out-rebounding its opponents by 1.3 boards per game.
