RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team earned two victories Friday in the Greg Adams Tennis Center, defeating University of the Cumberlands (6-0) and Cumberland University (6-1). The Colonels improve to 8-0 at home and 8-2 overall with the two wins.
EKU opened the day by sweeping all six singles matches against the University of the Cumberlands in straight sets. The two teams did not play doubles.
In the evening match, the Colonels won five of the six singles matches against the Bulldogs. Cumberland’s Natasha Yakimovich, ranked 14th nationally in the NAIA, was the lone visitor to prevail thanks to a 6-4, 6-0 decision over freshman
Nadja Barz.
“The best thing about today was that all of our lower players had a chance to contribute,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said.
Eastern Kentucky returns to action next Friday, Feb. 27, with matches against Georgetown College and Northern Kentucky.
