Lady Colonels Host Tech Before Stretch Of Four Straight On The Road

Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball team will host Tennessee Tech University on Saturday at McBrayer Arena before beginning a stretch of four straight road games. The game, presented by the AT&T, is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Saturday’s game will be the 78th meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech. The Golden Eagles hold a 56-21 advantage in the series. However, EKU is 6-2 against TTU in the last eight games. The Lady Colonels are 14-20 all-time against Tech in Richmond.

In its last game, Eastern built an 11-point second half lead, but couldn’t hold of a rally by Jacksonville State in a 72-65 loss on Thursday at McBrayer Arena. Alex Jones and Brittany Coles each scored 17 points to lead the Lady Colonels (4-9, 1-4 OVC). Jones added 16 rebounds for her 12th career double-double.

Jones is fifth in the OVC in scoring (15.2 ppg) and second in rebounding (10.2 rpg). EKU point guard Reese Bass is third with 4.2 assists per game. Coles leads the OVC with 1.7 blocks per game.

Tennessee Tech is 9-4 overall and 3-1 against Ohio Valley Conference teams. The Golden Eagles lost at Morehead State on Thursday but have conference wins over Jacksonville State, Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri.

Junior guard Tacarra Hayes leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg). Brittany Darling, a 6-foot-5 junior, is second on the team in scoring (9.1 ppg) and rebounding (6.0 rpg).

As a team, TTU averages 67 points per game and allows 63. The Golden Eagles have hit 40 percent of their shots from the field, including 29 percent from outside the three-point arc. Tech has a plus-4.4 rebounding margin this season.
