RICHMOND, Ky. - Former Eastern Kentucky University baseball player Sam Holbrook continues to be recoginized as one of the top umpires in Major League Baseball as he was selected to work this year's National League Championship Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Holbrook is expected to be behind the plate Wednesday night in St. Louis for game 3. The game will be aired on TBS at 8:05 p.m. EST.
A resident of Lexington, Ky., Holbrook is currently in his 10th season as a professional umpire and has already been selected to work the 2010 World Series, the 2004 All-Star Game, the 2008 ALCS and the 2010 NLDS, where he was a member of the crew on hand for Roy Halladay's historic no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds.
Holbrook was a pitcher and a four-year letter-winner at EKU from 1984-87 under legendary head coach Jim Ward. He was a member of three OVC championship teams during that time (1984-86).
