Game Notes

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball team will be back at home Tuesday to host Kentucky Christian University.  The Lady Colonels will be looking to rebound from a pair of losses last week at the Starwood Hotels of Atlanta Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Georgia State.

Tip-off at McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.  A live video broadcast of the contest is available on OVCSports.TV.

In its last game, EKU (1-4) went more than 10 minutes in the first half without scoring on its way to a 64-52 loss to Campbell University on Saturday.  A pair of free throws by Brittany Coles with 12:04 remaining in the first half gave the Lady Colonels a 12-9 lead.  However, Eastern wouldn’t score again until the 1:46 mark.  By then the Lady Camels rolled off 16 unanswered and led 25-12.  Campbell scored the first two baskets of the second half to take its largest lead of 16 points, 34-18.  Eastern closed to within five, 38-33, with 10:51 left in the game, but never got any closer.

Sophomore Marie Carpenter led EKU with 22 points, including scoring 10 straight for the Lady Colonels in the second half.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Kentucky Christian.

Kentucky Christian enters Tuesday’s game with a perfect 9-0 record.  The Knights returned all five starters from last season’s team that went 21-14 and won the NCCAA Division II National Championship for the 14th time.

KCU played an exhibition game against Morehead State earlier this season.  The Eagles won 95-58.  Kentucky Christian shot 41 percent from the field, but turned the ball over 41 times.  Morehead State out-scored the Knights 64-24 in the paint and 42-16 off turnovers.

In its regular season games, KCU is averaging 73 points per game and out-scoring its opponents by more than 22 points per game.  The Knights have hit on 47 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range while out-rebounding opponents by 18 boards per game.

Tanya Bowens, a 5-foot-6 sophomore guard, leads the team in scoring (16 ppg) and assists (4.9 apg).  Tara Weddle, a 5-foot-6 senior guard, contributes 12 points per game.
