RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky women’s basketball team will put its two-game winning streak on the line at Ohio Valley Conference leader Tennessee Tech on Thursday in Cookeville. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.

The game will be the 79th meeting between Eastern Kentucky (6-14, 3-8) and Tennessee Tech (16-4, 10-1 OVC). The Golden Eagles hold a 57-21 advantage in the series. EKU is 6-3 against TTU in the last nine games. However, the Lady Colonels are 4-30 all-time, and have lost six straight, against Tech in Cookeville.
In its last game, Eastern Kentucky scored the first 10 points of the second overtime on its way to a 91-86 victory over Tennessee State on Saturday.
Brittany Coles capped the 10-0 run with a three-pointer and a jumper and finished with a career-best 26 points.
Marie Carpenter tied her career-high with 25 points.
Shakeyia Colyer finished with 13 points, eight assists, four steals and no turnovers in 31 minutes on the court.
Free throw shooting plagued both teams throughout the contest. Eastern made 24-of-44 (55 percent). Tennessee State went 8-for-18 (44 percent) from the line.
EKU’s
Alex Jones is eighth in the OVC in scoring (14.1 ppg) and second in rebounding (9.4 rpg).
Reese Bass leads the OVC with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio and is third with 4.2 assists per game. Coles leads the OVC in three-point shooting (41.7 percent) and is second with 1.2 blocks per game.
Tennessee Tech enters Thursday’s game in first place in the OVC. The Golden Eagles haven’t lost since beginning a seven-game winning streak with a 78-69 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 8 in Richmond. Their only conference loss was two days before at Morehead State.
Tacarra Hayes, a 5-foot-7 junior guard, leads TTU in scoring (14.8 ppg), rebounding (7.2 rpg), assists (4.6 apg) and steals (1.8 spg). In addition to those categories, Hayes also ranks among the top-10 in the OVC in free throw percentage, assists-to-turnover ratio and minutes played.
Molly Heady, a 5-foot-9 freshman forward, has come on strong of late. For the season she’s contributed 8.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. However, in her last 11 games, Heady has given the Golden Eagles 12 points and seven rebounds per contest.
As a team, Tech scores 68 points and allows 62 per game. The Golden Eagles have shot 41 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range while out-rebounding their opponents by five rebounds per game.
The first time these two teams met this season Eastern Kentucky raced out to a 17-3 lead to start the game, but the Golden Eagles made eight three-pointers, shot 49 percent from the field and out-rebounded EKU by 10. Jones led Eastern with her third straight double-double, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Briana Jordan and Kellie Cook led TTU with 15 points each.
