RICHMOND, Ky. – Senior
Anouk Faure won the clinching match as the Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team held off visiting Dayton Saturday in the Greg Adams Tennis Center, 4-3. The Colonels have won five in a row to improve to 5-2 overall while the Flyers fall to 1-2.
“I had a feeling all week that this match would come down to doubles,” EKU head coach
Rob Oertel said. “We prepared well strategically in that area and it certainly paid off.”
The Colonels opened the match by taking the doubles point thanks to a close win at the No. 1 match. Faure and sophomore
Jessica Albuquerque won the final two games to prevail, 9-7.
In singles, freshman
Saioa Oscoz (No. 4) and Albuquerque (No. 1) each won their matches in straight sets to give EKU a 3-0 advantage. Dayton won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches to claw within 3-2, but Faure took care of business at No. 5 singles to clinch the team win.
