RICHMOND, Ky. – Due to heavy rain in the area, the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team’s midweek game at Ohio, originally scheduled for Tuesday, will now be played on Wednesday, April 13, at 6:00 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium.
EKU (10-22) defeated Marshall in a midweek game at Turkey Hughes Field last Tuesday, but dropped two of three over the weekend to Austin Peay. Junior
Richie Rodriguez, however, batted 9-for-12 in that series, raised his batting average 47 points over the week and now leads the Ohio Valley Conference with a .432 average and 54 hits. Junior
Jacob Daniel, meanwhile, drove in eight runs last week and currently leads the OVC with 34 RBI on the season. EKU is hitting .276 as a team entering this week.
Senior left-hander
Paul Duncan (0-2, 12.79 ERA) will start on the mound for the Colonels.
Ohio (15-17) has dropped four straight, and was swept last weekend at Western Michigan. The Bobcats, who are hitting just .244 as a team heading into Wednesday’s showdown, are led offensively by Taylor Emody, who is batting .315 on the year. Dan Ward, meanwhile, leads Ohio with five home runs and 24 RBI.
EKU leads the all-time series between the two programs, 5-1. The Colonels defeated the Bobcats, 11-10, at Turkey Hughes Field last year. Rodriguez drove in four runs in that game, while senior
Ryan Faidley batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore
Jeff Emerich scored the game-winning run when he tagged from third on a shallow fly to center in the bottom of the ninth.
The last time EKU travelled to Bob Wren Stadium, though, the Colonels fell to the Bobcats, 6-3, in 2009. Daniel and Rodriguez, both freshmen at the time, combined to go 4-for-7 in that game.
Following this week’s game at Ohio, EKU returns to action this weekend when the Colonels host OVC foe Morehead State at Turkey Hughes Field for a three-game series.
