RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will host Dayton on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Colonels’ 2011 home finale at Turkey Hughes Field. EKU will close out the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at future Ohio Valley Conference opponent SIU Edwardsville.
EKU (20-31, 11-13 OVC) had won six straight before dropping its final two games at Jacksonville State over the weekend. The Colonels’ postseason chances are now at the mercy of other conference teams’ results this weekend. The most likely scenario in which EKU, which is currently in sixth place in the league standings, makes the OVC Tournament involves UT Martin losing at least two games to Austin Peay at home this weekend.
Junior
Richie Rodriguez continues to lead EKU with a .366 batting average, good enough for seventh in the OVC. Junior
Jacob Daniel, meanwhile, is eighth in the OVC with a .358 batting average and tied for seventh in the league with 42 RBI.
Senior left-hander
Paul Duncan (0-2, 9.70 ERA) will make his fifth start of the year on the mound this afternoon.
Dayton enters the week with a record of 28-23 (13-8 Atlantic 10). The Flyers, who took two of three at St. Bonaventure over the weekend, are led offensively by Brian Blasik (.382 batting average) and C.J. Gillman (.380 batting average).
EKU is 2-2 against Dayton since 2007, defeating the Flyers, 7-5, on the road last year. Ironically, the visiting team has won every time in the series since 2007.
