RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will be seeking its first road win of the 2012-13 season on Sunday afternoon when the Lady Colonels face Cincinnati at 2:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena.

EKU (5-4) is a perfect 5-0 at McBrayer Arena this season, but 0-4 on the road.

Eastern fell at Ohio, 69-58, on Thursday night. The Lady Colonels led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but went cold over the final 20 minutes, shooting just 26.3 percent (10-of-38) from the field and 7.7 percent (1-of-13) from behind the arc as the Bobcats slowly pulled away.

Senior Alex Jones led EKU in defeat, posting her third consecutive and 27th-career double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds), while senior Raechele Gray went for 14 points and a career-high seven assists. The Lady Colonels’ leading scorer and rebounder, senior Jade Barber, scored nine points and grabbed seven boards in the first half, but was in foul trouble much of the second half.

EKU was 2-0 vs. Mid-American Conference opponents before Thursday’s loss, defeating MAC East favorite Miami (Ohio) and Kent State at home to open the season.

UC (5-2) is 4-1 at home this year, including a 57-46 win over Youngstown State on Wednesday. The Bearcats defeated EKU’s Ohio Valley Conference rival Morehead State, 55-45, in late November.

Dayeesha Hollins is a potent scoring threat for UC. In six games this season, Hollins is averaging 18.8 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game. Tiffany Turner (9.0 points per game) and Lesha Dunn (8.6 points per game) have also been key players for the Bearcats early in the season.

The overall series between EKU and UC has been fairly even, with UC leading 9-8; however, the Bearcats have won the last four in the series, including a 62-49 outcome in December of 2009. Jones recorded her fourth-career double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) in that game as a freshman.

Following Sunday’s game, EKU will not play again until the Lady Colonels host West Virginia State on Tuesday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m.
