RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team kept its perfect OVC record intact with a 7-0 win over Eastern Illinois Saturday morning. The Colonels (10-6, 3-0 OVC) won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Eastern Illinois nearly took the doubles point to open the match, but sophomore
Saioa Oscoz and freshman
Carmen Rodriguez rallied for a 9-8 victory in the deciding match at No. 2 doubles.
“I’m very proud of the leadership shown by Saioa in doubles,” EKU head coach
Rob Oertel said. “Winning the doubles point has been a struggle for us this year, so that set the tone for the rest of the contest.”
All six EKU singles players won their first sets in convincing fashion and then cruised in the second sets. Freshman
Melissa Gerritsen has now won four straight singles matches.
Eastern Kentucky is right back in action tomorrow, April 1 with a home match against SIUE. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
