HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will face Florida A&M on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Tournament at Green Reed Coliseum on the campus of Southern Mississippi.
The Lady Colonels will play either Southern Miss or Mississippi Valley State in the championship (4:30 p.m.) or consolation (2:00 p.m.) game on Saturday.
EKU (3-3) shot a season-low 29.1 percent from the field in a 60-52 loss to Ohio last Saturday. It was the Lady Colonels' first home loss since Jan. 5, 2013, a streak of nine consecutive wins at McBrayer Arena.
Sophomore
Shelly Harper scored a team-best 13 points versus Ohio, while fellow sophomore
Miranda Maples grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds.
Senior
Marie Carpenter scored nine points on Saturday, snapping a streak of 16 consecutive games in which she had scored in double digits dating back to last season. Carpenter was 0-of-5 from behind the three-point arc, but the Nashville native is still averaging 22.8 points-per-game and ranks eighth in the country in three-point field goals per game (3.67).
FAMU arrives in Hattiesburg with a record of 4-1. The Lady Rattlers have won three consecutive games, including a 63-57 victory over Webber last Friday.
