FARMVILLE, Va. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team won its third consecutive game on Wednesday night, defeating host Longwood, 60-47, at Willett Hall.

The Lady Colonels will enter Ohio Valley Conference play with a record of 6-5.

EKU's top two scorers on the season, senior Marie Carpenter and sophomore Shelly Harper, were limited to a combined 10 points by Longwood; however, senior Pilar Walker stepped up and led a balanced Lady Colonel scoring attack with 16 points.

Freshman Michaela Hunter (11 points) and sophomore Jasmine Henshaw (10 points) both came off the bench to score career highs. EKU's bench outscored Longwood's bench, 28-8, in the win.

The Lady Colonels, who entered the game with the OVC's top-ranked defense, used a smothering full court press most of the night to stifle Longwood to 34 percent (17-of-49) shooting from the field. EKU is now 4-0 on the year when holding its opponent below 60 points.

Heather Tobeck paced the Lancers with 12 points.

Longwood led by as many as eight points in the first half, taking a 14-6 advantage when Rianna Frazer knocked down a jumper with 13:18 on the clock.  However, EKU used a 10-0 run – capped by a jumper from the baseline by Henshaw – to take a 23-18 lead. The Lady Colonels went into the locker room at halftime up by five, 36-31, and never trailed again.

EKU returns to action on Dec. 30 when the Lady Colonels host in-state rival Murray State in their conference opener at McBrayer Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
