HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team trailed host Marshall by as many as 13 points, but stormed back to defeat the Thundering Herd, 64-55, on Tuesday night at the Cam Henderson Center.

The exciting, come-from-behind win snapped the Lady Colonels' three-game losing skid.

Marshall (2-4) led EKU (4-5) by 13 points in the first half and by eight points, 33-25, when Leah Scott converted a layup with 18:42 to play in the second half.

EKU responded with an 8-0 run and tied it, 33-33, on a pair of free throws by sophomore Jasmine Stafford. The Lady Colonels then took the lead, 38-37, on a three-pointer by senior Marie Carpenter with 13:01 on the clock.

It was not enough, though. Marshall retook the lead on a layup by Erica Woods and stretched its advantage back to six, 44-38, when Scott sank two free throws with 9:32 to play.

However, Carpenter, who scored 22 of her game-high 29 points in the second half, would not be denied. She sank a three-pointer on EKU's ensuing possession, sparking a 12-2 run that put the Lady Colonels up by four, 50-46, with just over six minutes remaining.

The Thundering Herd got back to with one, 52-51, before a pair of Carpenter free throws and back-to-back layups by senior Pilar Walker and sophomore Miranda Maples effectively put the game out of reach.

Carpenter and Walker combined to knock down four free throws in the final two minutes to seal the much-needed win for the Lady Colonels.

Carpenter connected on four three-pointers during her 29-point outburst, moving her past Samantha Young to No. 4 on EKU's all-time three-pointers list (159).

Sophomore Shelly Harper, meanwhile, finished two rebounds shy of a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight boards.

Walker dished out six assists in the win.

EKU turned the ball over a season-low 11 times in the game and turned 15 Marshall turnovers into 14 points.

The Lady Colonels, who lead the OVC in scoring defense (66.0 points-per-game) stifled Marshall to just 31.6 percent (18-of-57) shooting from the field.

Scott paced the Thundering Herd with 16 points.

EKU trailed by 13 points when Marshall's Chelsey Romero hit a jumper with 6:28 remaining in the first half. However, the Lady Colonels outscored the Thundering Herd, 11-6, to end the half as Carpenter converted a layup at the buzzer to send EKU into the locker room down by only eight, 31-23.

EKU returns to action on Thursday when the Lady Colonels host Missouri State at McBrayer Arena at 7:00 p.m.
