LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky’s baseball team fell behind No. 4 Louisville 7-0 after three innings in a 17-6 road loss on Wednesday.

A two-run double by Sutton Whiting highlighted a five-run second inning for the Cardinals (3-1).  He added an RBI single as part of a two-run third inning.

A UofL error in the fourth opened the door for Demetrius Moorer to score Eastern’s (1-3) first run.  The Colonels were down 9-1 when Sean Hagen drove in a pair with a double down the left field line in the sixth.  Kyle Nowlin followed with a run scoring single to close the gap to 9-4.  Hagen had an RBI single in the eighth as well.

After Louisville added six more in the bottom of the eighth, Bryan Soloman capped the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth. 

Alex Hughes went 3-for-5 and scored twice.  Hagen finished 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.  Nowlin also had two hits.  Cole Sturgeon had four hits in five at bats for Louisville.  Adam Engel went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, four RBIs and three stolen bases.

Chris Cervantes (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in one and two-thirds innings.  Dace Kime (1-0) earned the win.  He allowed one run on three hits in four innings.

The Colonels travel back to South Carolina for the second straight weekend for three games at Winthrop University.  EKU will play Army at noon on Friday, Winthrop at noon on Saturday and Delaware State at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
