RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will play its third consecutive conference road game on Saturday when the Lady Colonels head east on I-64 to face in-state rival Morehead State at Ellis T. Johnson Arena. Tip is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.

EKU (13-8, 7-3 OVC) found itself atop the OVC East Division standings this weekend, following a win at Southeast Missouri and a Belmont loss at Tennessee Tech. However, the Lady Colonels fell at UT Martin, 75-60, on Monday and are now tied for second in the OVC East with TTU.

Senior Alex Jones went for double-doubles in both EKU games last weekend, and the Elizabethtown native now has five double-doubles in the last six games. Jones is now six double-doubles shy of the EKU career record of 38 held by Laphelia Doss, and 68 rebounds shy of becoming only the second Lady Colonel ever to record 1,000 career points and rebounds.

Junior Marie Carpenter appears to have finally found her shooting touch after missing 11 games early in the season with a hand injury. Carpenter, who led EKU at 41.8 percent from behind the arc as a sophomore, connected on five three pointers in the loss to UTM, the most by any Lady Colonel in a single-game this season.

Morehead State (8-16, 4-6 OVC) is in fifth place in the OVC East following a 59-45 loss at Belmont on Monday. Terrice Robinson leads the Eagles and ranks fourth in the OVC at 17.1 points-per-game. Robinson went for 30 points against EKU in the teams’ last meeting.

EKU leads the all-time series between the two programs, 42-41. The Lady Colonels took the lead in the 42-year old rivalry with a 62-52 win at McBrayer Arena on Jan. 12.

Following Saturday’s matchup, EKU is off Monday before playing its next three games at home starting with Jacksonville State on Feb. 16. The Lady Colonels are 10-1 at McBrayer Arena this season.
