RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky’s baseball team will host OVC newcomer Belmont for a three-game series this weekend.
The teams will play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. Due to the arrival of inclement weather on Sunday, the teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
The Colonels enter the weekend 5-11 overall and 2-4 in OVC play. The Bruins are 13-6 on the season and 2-1 against league teams.
Eastern’s starters for the series will be right-handers
Brent Cobb and
Ben Gullo followed by lefty
Shane Grimm. Cobb is 2-3 with a 3.91 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 25 and one-third innings. Gullo will be making his first start of the season. He carries an 0-1 record and a 4.91 ERA in six relief appearances. Grimm is 2-1 with a 4.95 ERA.
Freshman
Doug Teegarden leads EKU with a .370 batting average.
Shaun Ball and
Alex Hughes both have a team-best 10 RBIs.
Demetrius Moorer leads the Colonels with 13 runs and 16 walks.
Belmont will start left-hander Chase Brookshire, right-hander Austin Coley and southpaw James Buckelew. Brookshire, the Bruins’ ace, is 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in five starts. He has struck out 36 batters in 34 innings. Coley is 3-0 with a 4.55 ERA. Buckelew is 1-2 with a 5.33 ERA.
Jared Breen has a team-best .377 batting average. Judah Akers has five home runs, 17 runs and 19 RBIs.
