RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team opens Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend by hosting Tennessee Tech in a three-game set at Turkey Hughes Field.
Game one is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by game two on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and the finale on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Friday’s game also serves as EKU’s home opener, as the Colonels’ previous four home attempts have been canceled to due to weather.
EKU enters conference action with a record of 3-5. The Colonels nearly went on the road and upset West Virginia on Tuesday, falling to the Mountaineers, 2-1.
Junior
Sean Hagen leads Eastern with a .391 batting average, while fellow junior
Bryan Soloman is hitting .314 with a team-best seven RBI.
TTU arrives in Richmond with a record of 6-5. The Golden Eagles most recently swept Bowling Green in a two-game series before falling to Michigan State on Wednesday, 5-3. James Abraham leads TTU with a .357 batting average, while Brandon Thomasson has smacked four home runs and driven in 14 runs on the season.
The Colonels will go with a weekend rotation of senior right-hander
Anthony Bazzani (1-1, 6.30 ERA), senior southpaw
Shane Grimm (1-0, 5.00 ERA) and junior right-hander
Brent Cobb (1-2, 5.56 ERA). Tech is expected to counter with right-hander Tristan Archer (1-1, 4.08 ERA), right-hander David Hess (1-0, 5.14 ERA) and right-hander Jacob Honea (0-1, 4.50 ERA).
