RICHMOND, Ky. – Tennessee Tech pitcher Tristan Archer went the distance and allowed just one run as the visiting Golden Eagles defeated the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team Friday afternoon, 5-1. This was both the home opener and Ohio Valley Conference opener for the Colonels.

With the win, Tennessee Tech moves to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Eastern is now 3-6 and 0-1.

Archer (2-1) struck out 10 EKU hitters over nine innings while scattering six hits. The righty gave up his only run with two outs in the ninth inning.

Tennessee Tech got on the board with one run in the fifth and sixth innings. A Jordan Parris two-out RBI double in the fifth opened the scoring. In the sixth, TTU capitalized on two early walks to add another run. James Abraham’s RBI single to left center extended Tennessee Tech’s lead to 2-0.

The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the seventh, including a Daniel Miles home run, and another run in the eighth to push the lead to 5-0.

EKU pinch hitter John Wilson ended the shutout in the ninth inning with an RBI double to straight-away center field.

Parris finished 3-of-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for Tennessee Tech.

Shaun Ball and Bryan Soloman each posted two hits for the Colonels. Pitcher Anthony Bazzani (1-2) took the loss as he allowed two runs in five-plus innings of work.

The Colonels and Golden Eagles will play game two of the series tomorrow, March 9 beginning at 2 p.m.
