MURRAY, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky will conclude the 2013 regular season this week with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Murray State.
Thursday’s series opener will get underway at 4 p.m. ET. Friday’s game will start at 2 p.m. ET. Saturday’s series finale is also scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
The Colonels (18-31, 14-12 OVC) have already clinched the No. 5 seed in the upcoming six-team OVC Tournament. EKU will play the No. 4 seed at 4 p.m. ET on May 22 in Jackson, Tenn.
Murray State (20-31, 8-19 OVC) will not qualify for the tournament.
The Eastern Kentucky weekend rotation will change this weekend.
Myles Scott will make his first start of the season in place of
Ben Gullo.
Matt Lynch will start game three in place of
Shane Grimm.
Brent Cobb (5-6, 4.11 ERA) will start the series opener for EKU on Thursday. The junior has turned in four straight quality starts, three of which he has pitched eight or more innings. The right-handed Cobb will face Murray State lefty Brock Downey (0-5, 6.94 ERA).
Scott (3-2, 2.29 ERA) has been strong in 22 relief appearances this season. He has allowed just one earned run over his last nine and one-third innings. He also had a streak earlier in the season when he made nine straight appearances without allowing an earned run. Cameron Finch (5-4, 3.91 ERA) will start game two for the Thoroughbreds.
Lynch (1-5, 7.27 ERA) will be making his fifth start of the season, but first weekend start. He is credited with EKU’s only quality start in a mid-week game this season, allowing three earned runs in six innings at No. 17 Indiana. Murray State will start Tim Vonder Haar (2-3, 5.88 ERA) in the series finale.
Offensively
Sean Hagen leads Eastern Kentucky and ranks third in the OVC with a .364 batting average. He has reached base in 12 straight games.
Shaun Ball leads the team and is tied for fourth in the conference with 10 home runs.
Murray State is led by Brandon Eggenschwiler’s .354 average. No one on the team has more than two home runs, but Mike Kozlowski leads the team with 43 RBIs.
