Marie Carpenter broke the Lady Colonel career mark for three-pointers as the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team cruised past Ohio Valley Conference foe Belmont, 75-59, on Saturday evening at the Curb Event Center.
With the win, EKU (11-6, 5-1 OVC) remains atop the OVC East Division standings. The red-hot Lady Colonels have now won eight of their last nine games.
Playing in her hometown of Nashville, Carpenter entered the game needing two three-pointers to break the record of 170 held by Angie Cox (1988-92). She sank six en route to a game-high 27 points.
Fellow senior
Pilar Walker, meanwhile, posted her first-career double-double, scoring 12 points and dishing out a career-high 10 assists.

Jordyn Luffman paced the Bruins with 13 points.
EKU led the game from beginning to end. The Lady Colonels jumped out to a 14-2 lead when Carpenter sank a jumper with 14:13 on the clock. Belmont responded with five unanswered points to get within seven, but that was as close as the Bruins would get the rest of the way. EKU led by at least nine points throughout the second half.
