Colonels Drop OVC Opener At Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky lost its Ohio Valley Conference opener, 11-1, at Tennessee Tech on Friday.

An RBI double by Dylan Bosheers followed by a run scoring single from Jordan Hopkins staked the Golden Eagles (12-2, 1-0 OVC) to a 2-0 lead after four innings. A three-run home run by Zach Stephens fueled a 4-run fifth inning for TTU and allowed the home team to pull away.

EKU (4-8, 0-1 OVC) was down 10-0 when Bryan Soloman's single in the seventh plated the visitor's lone run. Soloman finished 1-for-3. Sean Hagen went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Stephens had a 3-for-4 day for Tech while scoring two runs and driving in four. Brandon Thomasson was 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.

Brent Cobb (2-2) started for the Colonels. The senior allowed six runs, five of which were earned, on eight hits in four and one-third innings. He walked three and struck out a season-high four. David Hess (3-0) earned the win after allowing one unearned run on five hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out five.

The Colonels and Golden Eagles continue their three-game series on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
