RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky opened a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Murray State with a 6-1 loss at Turkey Hughes Field on Thursday.
The Thoroughbreds (22-28, 13-15 OVC) grabbed the lead in the third on a three-run home run by Tyler Lawrence. Matt McGowan's sacrifice bunt later in the inning stretched the margin to 4-0.

Luke Wurzelbacher#'s run scoring double in the bottom of the fifth got Eastern (23-30, 11-17 OVC) on the board and proved to be the home team's only run.
Murray State platted two unearned runs in the top of the ninth to pull away.
Cameron Finch (4-7) picked up the win after tossing eight innings of six-hit ball. He allowed one run, struck out seven and walked a batter. Anthony Bayus had three hits in five at bats and scored a run for MSU. Lawrence finished 1-for-4 with a run and three driven in.

Shea Sullivan# had a 3-for-4 day and scored a run for the Colonels.

Tanner Perkins# (3-9) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits in seven and one-third innings of work. He struck out four and walked a season-high three batters. He retired 11 straight batters from the fourth through the seventh innings.
The two teams will continue their conference series on Friday at 4 p.m.
