RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU women's tennis team will open Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend as it hosts Austin Peay State University and Murray State University.
EKU (5-9) will take on the Governors in a dual match on Friday, before battling the Racers on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at Tom Higgins Courts.
Sophomore Laura Argente has won her last five matches and tallied her eighth win in the last nine with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Jiayuan Xue of Troy on Tuesday. Argente is now 10-3 at the No. 1 spot in her first season at EKU after transferring from the University of South Florida.
APSU (1-5) has lost its last five matches, after winning the season opener over Dayton at home, 6-1. The Governors lost to Wright State, 4-3, in its last match in Clarksville. Friday's match will mark just the second match away from Clarksville for the Governors.
In Saturday's match, the 2015 OVC regular season co-champions will square off against one another. The Colonels and the Racers split season title, before the Racers ended EKU's season with a 4-2 win in the OVC Tournament.
Murray State (5-4) is coming off a 7-0 loss to Wright State in Clarksville, Tennessee last weekend. The Racers' most recent loss ended a three-match win streak for Murray State.
