RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU women's tennis team handed Austin Peay State University a 4-3 loss in the Ohio Valley Conference opener on Friday at Tom Higgins Courts.
 
EKU (6-8) claimed the critical doubles' point, as Corentine Bodin and Marina Marti solidified the Colonels' 1-0 lead with a 7-5 win in the deciding set.
 
"Getting the doubles' point was big for the girls," Head Coach Rob Oertel said. "As competitive as the OVC is, winning the doubles' point is important because it gives you momentum for the remainder of the match."
 
The Governors (1-6) stole the No. 1 singles match to even the score at one apiece. Marti and Raquel Montalvo put EKU back on top, winning at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot respectively. With a 3-1 lead, freshman Margaux Lacroix tallied her seventh singles win of the year to clinch the match for the Colonels.
 
EKU continues OVC play on Saturday against Murray State University. Saturday's match is scheduled for 10 a.m. Weather permitting, the match will be played outdoors at Tom Higgins Courts.
