RICHMOND, Ky. – Sophomore Laura Argente logged her sixth win in the last seven matches at the No. 1 spot but the EKU women's tennis team fell to the University of Louisville, 6-1, in the first ever match at the newly constructed Tom Higgins Tennis Courts.
 
With a win over Louisville's Sena Suswam, Argente improved her mark to 8-3 in singles play on the season. Argente lost the first set, 2-6, but rallied for wins in the following two sets to pick up the win.
 
Argente and Raquel Montalvo took down the duo of Ariana Rodriguez and Abbie Panz, 6-3, in doubles play to force a deciding third set but the Cardinals claimed the doubles' point.
 
The new Tom Higgins Tennis Courts were completed in the spring of 2015.  The new facility is now located near the Greg Adams Indoor Tennis Center.  There are eight hard courts at the new facility and plans to include lights at a later date.
 
In October 2007, the tennis courts were renamed in honor of the long-time Eastern Kentucky tennis coach who stepped down from the coaching ranks in 2000. Higgins completed 28 seasons as EKU's men's tennis coach and seven as head coach of the Colonels' women's tennis team. During Higgins' tenure at EKU, the Colonels won 339 men's dual matches, ranking him 14th among active Division I coaches in the nation in wins in 2000.
 
EKU (5-7) will take on the University of West Florida on Sunday, March 13 in its next match.
