RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky baseball team is looking to continue its Ohio Valley Conference momentum as it heads to Martin, Tennessee to take on the Tennessee-Martin this weekend.
The series opener has been changed to 5 p.m. ET on Friday, while Saturday's game is set for 4 p.m. ET and Sunday's game will get underway at 2 p.m. ET.
The Colonels (13-16, 3-6 OVC) won their first conference series of the season, outscoring Morehead State 27-9 in two wins at home last weekend. Eastern has only lost one game this season when scoring at least six runs.
EKU dropped a non-conference midweek game against Ohio, 10-4, on Tuesday.
UT Martin (7-22, 2-10 OVC) has lost 12 straight games overall and nine consecutive conference games.
Senior
Kyle Nowlin is tied for third in the nation in home runs with 12, while fellow senior
Mandy Alvarez is 11th in hits with 48 on the season.
Friday's starting pitching match-up will have EKU junior right-hander
Eric Nerl (3-1, 3.54 ERA) facing UTM junior right-hander Jake Patner (1-3, 13.50 ERA).
Saturday's starters are
Alex Hamilton (2-3, 4.69 ERA) for Eastern and Dom Bazzani (0-6, 8.33 ERA) for UT Martin. In his last five starts, Hamilton is 2-1 with a 3.30 ERA and 31 strike outs in 30 innings pitched. In those five starts, the lefty has only allowed more than three earned runs once (4). Bazzani is the brother of former Colonel pitcher Anthony Bazzani.
Patrick Bernard (3-1, 4.13 ERA) will get the ball for the Skyhawks on Sunday, making just his second start of the season. He will face sophomore
Hunter Dunn (1-3, 6.54 ERA).
