CHARLESTON, Ill. – After falling behind 1-0, the EKU women's tennis team won four straight singles matches to beat Eastern Illinois, 4-3, on the road on Friday.

The Colonels (6-7, 2-1 OVC) lost the doubles point to begin the match. However,
Viktorija Demcenkova, Marina Marti,
Sagung Putri Dwinta and Laura Argente won four straight singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory.

"The team showed great composure today after losing the doubles point," said EKU Head Coach
Rob Oertel. "They bounced back and stayed mentally strong while facing tough conditions with 20-mile per hour winds."

Demcenkova got the rally started with a 6-1 and 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles over Srishti Slaria. Marti's 6-3 and 6-1 win at No. 6 singles gave Eastern Kentucky the lead. Dwinta earned a 6-3 and 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.

Argente won the clincher at No. 2 singles over Stella Cliffe by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.

"Every win in this conference is a good win," Oertel said. "The conference is the deepest it's ever been and every win is going to be tough."

Eastern Kentucky will finish off its two-match conference road trip at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Saturday at noon.
