NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern's run in the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Tournament ended in the championship match against undefeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 4-1, on Sunday at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
 
SIU Edwardsville (21-0) began by winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match.
 
Eastern (12-11) quickly tied the match when Laura Argente made quick work of Tiffany Hollebeck, winning 6-0 and 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
 
SIUE went up 2-1 with a win at No. 4 singles and then climbed to within a point of winning the title when Lexi Aranda beat Kristina Lagoda, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
 
In an effort to keep the Colonels' hopes alive, second team all-conference selection Viktorija Demcenkova forced a third set against first team All-OVC honoree Mia Frogner at No. 2 singles.  After Frogner pitched a 6-0 shutout in the first set, Demcenkova came back to win the tiebreaker in the second set 7-2.  However, Frogner clinched the championship for the Cougars with a 6-2 win in the third set.

"UT Martin (semifinals) and SIUE are more talented teams than we are right now," EKU Head Coach Rob Oertel said.  "It was a great accomplishment for our team to make it this far and give SIUE a competitive match.  With the core players we have coming back (one senior in this year's line-up), we have a very bright future.  I expect us to be right back here next season with a good chance to win the championship."
