Basketball Road Trip Ends At Murray State Saturday For Both Teams

MURRAY, Ky. – The two-game Ohio Valley Conference road trip for the Eastern Kentucky men's and women's basketball teams ends on Saturday at rival Murray State.
 
Tip-off for the women's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.  The men's game will begin at 8 p.m. ET..

The Colonels (7-11, 4-5 OVC) lost at Austin Peay on Thursday, 59-45.  EKU trailed by only three after a lay-up by Madison Wood with 8:40 to go, but the Governors ended the game on an 18-7 run.
 
A'Queen Hayes was chosen as the OVC Co-Player of the Week and the OVC Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday.
 
In its last three games, Eastern Kentucky has limited its opponents to 52 points per game.
 
Through 18 games this season, Eastern has out-rebounded its opponent 13 times.  The Colonels are fourth in the OVC in rebounding margin (+3.6 per game).
 
EKU is third in the OVC in scoring defense (61.8 ppg), fourth in rebounding margin (+3.6), second in rebounding defense (34.6 rpg), fourth in blocks (3.4/g), fifth in rebounding offense (38.2 rpg), and fifth in field goal percentage defense (39.7 percent).
 
Eastern leads the series 58-30 and is 27-16 in games played in Murray.  The Colonels have won seven of the last eight.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Murray State enters Saturday's game 7-13 overall and 3-6 in OVC play.  The Racers have lost six of their last eight games.
 
MSU dropped an 82-80 decision Thursday to Morehead State.  The Racers got a game-high 34 points from Ke'Shunan James on 16-of-34 shooting, while Bria Bethea tossed in 24 points on 5-of-11 shooting from 3-point range.
 
James, a senior guard, leads the team, and is second in the OVC, with an average of 20.6 points per game.  She also pulls down 8.4 rebounds per game.  Bria Bethea, also a senior guard, contributes 15.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
 
UP NEXT
EKU begins a four-game home stand on Thursday when Belmont visits McBrayer Arena.  The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

EKU (8-14, 2-7 OVC) overcame a 12-point first half deficit, and erased a 10-point second half deficit, but couldn't hold off Austin Peay in a 90-84 road loss on Thursday.
 
Freshman Dedric Boyd poured in 27 points in EKU's loss at Austin Peay.  He connected on a career-high 10 field goals, including going 4-of-5 from deep.  Boyd now ranks 14th in the league (and second among all freshmen) in scoring at 14.2 points per game.
 
Junior Nick Mayo blocked three shots at Austin Peay to take over sole possession of second place on EKU's all-time blocks list (109).  He is six blocks shy of tying the EKU career blocks record (115).
 
Mayo is averaging 20.5 points per game in his career versus Murray State.
 
Senior Zach Charles posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in last year's 86-79 loss at Murray State.
 
EKU shot 51.6 percent (33-of-64) from the field and 45.0 percent (9-of-20) from three-point range at Austin Peay, both of which are the Colonels' highest shooting percentages in  an OVC game this season.
 
This is the 166th all-time meeting between EKU and Murray State.  MSU leads the series, 103-62, and the Racers have won three straight over the Colonels.  Three of those losses have come by seven or less points.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Murray State has won three of its last four games and sits in second place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 7-2 record.  The Racers are 15-5 overall.
 
MSU picked up an 87-81 victory over Morehead State on Thursday.  Jonathan Stark overcame a slow shooting night with a 12-for-12 effort at the free throw line to score a game-high 23 points as part of five MSU players in double-figure scoring.  Terrell Miller added a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Stark, a senior guard, leads the conference with an average of 20 points per game.  He has made 47 percent of his shots from the field, including 43 percent from three-point range.  Terrell Miller Jr., a 6-foot-8 senior forward, is the team's second leading scorer (15.2 ppg) and top rebounder (8.2 rpg).
 
As a team, Murray State averages 81 points and allows 67 per game.  The Racers are shooting 49 percent from the field and out-rebounding their opponents by seven boards per game.

The Colonels will be back home for four straight games starting Thursday against OVC leader Belmont.  The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
