BOX SCORE
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Laura Argente and
Alexandra Belle collected wins for Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis team as they fell to Indiana University, 5-2, Friday afternoon in Bloomington, Indiana.
Â
The Hoosiers went up two after taking the doubles and winning at No. 1 singles, but Argente stifled IU after taking set one at No. 3 singles, 6-3. The Castellon, Spain native put away her matchup in set two, 6-4.
Â
Belle took set one at No. 4 singles, 6-4, but IU battled back to take set two, 5-7. The Seloncourt, France native fell in a 2-0 hole to begin the third set, but rattled off six straight to take the third and her match, 6-2.
Â
"It was an incredible battle today against a Power 5 program, so I can't say I'm disappointed," Head Coach
Rob Oertel stated. "But, if we want to be a great team these are the matches we need to find a way to win. In singles all six of them competed pretty hard, it was a really tough matchup at one, but we had really nice wins in the middle of our lineup. Laura played one of her best matches as a Colonel and got revenge, winning against a girl she lost to in straight sets in the fall. It was a good matchup for Alex, very similar styles of play."
Â
The reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week,
Viktorija Demcenkova took her first set at No. 2 singles, 6-4, while
Margaux Lacroix won her second set, 7-5, to push to a third.
Â
Women's tennis will be back in action Sunday at 9 a.m. as they take on Miami (OH) at the Greg Adams Indoor Tennis Center.
