RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis team won it's eighth match in a row over Austin Peay State University, 6-1, to remain undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play Friday afternoon at the Tom Higgins Outdoor Tennis Courts.

This is just the second league loss for the Governors.

Kristina Lagoda and Viktorija Demcenkova notched a quick win at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, followed by a Laura Argente and Raquel Montalvo victory at No. 3, 6-4, to open the match.

After taking the doubles point, Alexandra Belle collected a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to put the Colonels ahead, 2-0.

The Governors responded by taking their lone point of the match at No. 3 singles.

Margaux Lacroix clinched the match for Eastern at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Argente topped Lidia Yanes Garcia, back-to-back OVC Player of the Year, at No. 1, 7-6, 6-3.

"The women's focus and togetherness is unmatched in all of my years," Head Coach Rob Oertel stated. "Peay is a good team. Great win by Laura, that's player of the year the last two years and an extra special victory. Just unwavering focus by the girls today as all season. I know they feel like there's a lot more to do and prove, they're not satisified."

Lagoda and Lisa Friess collected the final two wins of the match.

Lagoda and Belle remain undefeated in conference singles play.

After the victory EKU moves to 13-8 (8-0 OVC) while APSU falls to 10-7 (6-2 OVC).

The Colonels will battle it out with the only other 8-0 team in the conference in Murray State for the OVC regular season title tomorrow at the Tom Higgins Outdoor Courts. If weather is bad, the match will be held inside the Greg Adams Tennis Center. The contest is set to begin at 11 a.m.
