ATLANTA, Ga. – EKU's season ended with a 4-0 loss to No. 4 seed Georgia Tech on Friday in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament.
 
The Colonels conclude the season with a 16-9 record.  EKU went 9-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play this season.  Georgia Tech improves to 23-5 and advances to the round of 32.
 
The Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of 6-0 victories in doubles to claim the first point of the match.  Laura Argente and Raquel Montalvo fell to Johnnise Renaud and Nami Otsuka at No. 3 doubles.  The No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation, Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones, beat EKU's Kristina Lagoda and Viktorija Demcenkova at No. 1 doubles.
 
Tech picked up three straight set victories in singles to clinch the match.  Otsuka beat Lisa Friess, 6-2 and 6-1, at No. 5 singles.  Ida Jariskog, the 125th ranked singles player in NCAA women's tennis, knocked off Alexandra Belle, 6-1 and 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
 
No. 14 ranked Hourigan scored the clinching point at No. 1 singles with a 6-0 and 6-2 win over Argente.
 
Lagoda dropped the first set to Jones at No. 2 singles, but was tied 4-4 with the 60th ranked player in the nation when the match ended.
 
"Playing the No. 4 team in the country, by far the best team we have faced all year, I'm very proud of the way the girls competed," EKU Head Coach Rob Oertel said.  "I'm proud of the effort they gave today.  That's all you can ask for is for everyone to give their best effort."
