Baseball Opens 2020 Season Friday At Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. –
The 2020 regular season begins for Eastern Kentucky with a three-game series at Presbyterian College starting on Friday.
 
The series-opener on Friday and game two on Saturday will both begin at 2 p.m.  The series finale on Sunday will start at 1 p.m.
 
The games will be the first of the season for both teams.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU leads the series 2-1.
 
-  When the two teams last met, EKU won two of three at Presbyterian during the 2010 season. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky was 32-27 overall in 2019 and tied for fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 16-14 mark.  It was EKU's second straight 30-win season.
 
-  Senior outfielder Nick Howie was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Player of the Year.  He was also chosen by D1Baseball.com as the 39th-best hitter in college baseball and the 48th-best outfielder.  Howie was third in the OVC with a .474 on-base percentage, third with 46 walks, fifth with a .353 average and tied for fifth with 16 stolen bases.  He also had 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and 48 runs scored.
 
-  Second baseman Daniel Harris IV, catcher A.J. Lewis and Howie were chosen to the Preseason All-OVC Team.  D1Baseball.com rated Lewis as the 98th-best hitter in college baseball.
 
-  The Colonels were picked to finish second in the OVC this season by coaches and communications directors.
 
-  Senior lefty Brennan Kelly, who was the Sunday starter in 2019, will get the nod for game one on Friday.  He was 4-4 with a 4.95 ERA last season.  Right-hander Jacob Ferris will start game two.  He went 6-5 with a 6.17 ERA as a freshman.  Sunday's starter is scheduled to be junior left-hander Jake Lewis, who had an 0-2 record and a 7.89 ERA last year.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Presbyterian was 30-29 overall in 2019 and placed fourth in the Big South with a 16-11 mark.  
 
-  Four position starters and three starting pitchers return from last season's team.  PC returns a total of 17 letter winners.
 
-  Senior outfielder Zacchaeus Rasberry led the team in batting (.327), runs (45), hits (74), home runs (7) and stolen bases (23) last season.
 
-  Eric Miles, a senior right-hander, will start Friday's season-opener on the mound.  He led the team with seven wins a year ago, finishing 7-4 with a 3.97 ERA and 84 strike outs in 93 innings.  Reagan Fowler is scheduled to start Saturday's game.  The junior right-hander was 3-4 with a 5.24 ERA in 2019.  Sunday's starting pitcher for Presbyterian has not been announced.
 
-  The Blue Hose were picked to finish fifth in the 10-team Big South Conference in 2020.
