Colonels To Host Golden Eagles In Weekend Series

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky will play Tennessee Tech this weekend in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.
 
The first game of the series will take place on Friday at 6 p.m.  Saturday will feature a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU leads the series 77-73-1. 
 
-  The last time the two teams met was in a three-game series from May 3-5, 2019 in Richmond.  EKU won two of the three contests, scoring eight or more runs in each game.
 
-  Colonels' second baseman Daniel Harris IV tied a career-high with four RBIs in a game on Friday at Murray State.  Harris' first 4-RBI game took place against Tennessee Tech in the May 2019 series finale.
 
-  EKU southpaw Brennan Kelly struck out seven Golden Eagles in eight and one-third innings in 2019.
 
-  Colonel slugger Brent Lovell battered Tennessee Tech to the tune of a .364 average, four runs and two home runs in the May 2019 series.
  
THE COLONELS
-  EKU is 13-26 this season and 7-14 against conference opponents.  The Colonels jumped out to a 5-1 lead against the University of Kentucky on Tuesday but weren't able to maintain the lead and fell to the Wildcats, 7-6.
 
-  Harris had a 20-game hitting streak ended on Sunday at Murray State.  Harris got off to a slow start to the season, hitting .095 (4-for-42) in the first 11 games.  Since then, he is batting .387 with a .419 on-base percentage and has recorded at least one hit in 25 of his last 27 games.
 
-  Outfielder Caleb Upshaw is hitting .324 with three doubles, five runs, eight RBIs and two home runs in the past 10 games.
 
-  In his last 10 games, first baseman/third baseman Charlie Ludwick is hitting .359 with seven runs, seven RBIs, three doubles and a home run.
 
-  Freshman outfielder Kendal Ewell has been on a tear, batting .343 with 11 runs, 14 RBIs, and two home runs over his last 17 games.  He has reached base safely in 16 of the 17 contests.
 
-  The Eastern Kentucky pitching staff leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 355 strike outs.
 
-  Junior right-hander Louis Davenport III struck out three batters in two perfect innings on Tuesday in Lexington.
 
-  Redshirt junior right-hander Darren Williams will start Friday afternoon's series opener.  He is 1-6 this season with a 4.88 ERA and 63 strike outs in 55 and one-third innings.  Williams has been dominant over his past four starts, boasting 2.25 ERA and 33 strike outs in 28 innings.  On Friday, Williams struck out a career-high 10 batters in five and two-thirds innings against Murray State.  Freshman Garret Simpson will start game two of the series on Saturday afternoon.  He is 1-5 with a 5.03 ERA and 26 strike outs in 34 innings.  Simpson struck out three in three innings on Friday at Murray State.  Saturday's game three starter has not been determined.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Tennessee Tech is 14-19 overall and 7-11 in OVC competition.  The Golden Eagles enter Richmond on the heels of Tuesday's 9-7 victory over in-state rival Belmont.
 
-  Freshman shortstop Brett Roberts leads the Golden Eagles in several offensive categories, boasting a .371 batting average, 25 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases.  Roberts enters the game riding a 15-game hit streak and has recorded a hit in 31 of TTU's 33 games.
 
-  Freshman left-hander Ty Fisher will start the opener.  He leads the rotation with a 4-3 record and a 3.59 ERA in 52 and two-thirds innings.  Fisher struck out five batters last Friday against Belmont.  Junior righty Tyler Sylvester is scheduled for game two.  He is 0-4 this season with a 6.16 ERA.  The starter for game three has not been determined.
