Colonels Travel To SEMO For OVC Weekend Series

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky will travel to Cape Girardeau to play Southeast Missouri this weekend in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.
 
Due to the arrival of poor weather on Saturday, the schedule has been changed.  The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3 p.m. ET.  The final game of the series is currently scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  SEMO leads the series 47-36. 
 
-  The last time the two teams met was in a three-game series from May 10-12, 2019 in Cape Girardeau.  EKU won the final two contests, taking the series.
 
-  Eastern Kentucky second baseman Daniel Harris IV compiled a .385/.385/1.308 slash line with three home runs against Southest pitching in 2019.
 
-  Colonels' starter Brennan Kelley held the Redhawks to two runs in five and two-thirds innings in the most recent game between EKU and Southeast in May 2019.
 
-  The Colonels have won two of their last three OVC series. SEMO has won four straight series against OVC opponents.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU is 15-27 this season and 9-15 against conference opponents.  The Colonels tallied 28 hits and 22 runs in the series victory last weekend against Tennessee Tech.  
 
-  Harris got off to a slow start to the season, hitting .095 (4-for-42) in the first 11 games.  Since then, he is batting .387 with a .438 on-base percentage and has recorded at least one hit in 28 of his last 30 games.
 
-  Senior outfielder Caleb Upshaw is batting .500 with five runs, 10 RBIs and four extra-base hits in the past six games.
 
-  Freshman outfielder Max Williams has been on fire, batting .313 with a .563 slugging percentage, four RBIs, two doubles and a triple in his last 5 games.
 
-  Harris and sophomore outfielder Cam Ridley burned up the basepaths last weekend, combining for five stolen bases against Tennessee Tech.  Both Colonels now have 13 steals, tied for fifth most in the OVC.
 
-  The Eastern Kentucky pitching staff leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 378 strike outs.
 
-  Redshirt sophomore left-hander Will Brian is tied for the most saves in the OVC after picking up his seventh on Saturday afternoon.
 
-  Redshirt junior right-hander Darren Williams will start Friday's series opener.  He is 2-6 this season with a 5.14 ERA and 69 strike outs in 61 and one-third innings.  Williams was dominant in the month of April, posting a 3.18 ERA and 39 strike outs in 34 innings.  He notched three straight quality starts during April.  Freshman Garret Simpson will start game two of the series.  He is 1-5 with a 4.97 ERA and 27 strike outs in 38 innings.  Over his last four starts, Simpson has a 1.14 WHIP.  The game three starter has not been determined.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Southeast Missouri is 21-16 overall and 13-8 in OVC competition.  They return home after defeating Belmont in two of three games played in Nashville this past weekend.
 
-  The Redhawks have won four of their last six games at Capaha Field.
 
-  Junior shortstop Tyler Wilber leads the conference with 61 hits and a .412 batting average.  Wilber enters the game riding a 15-game hit streak, the longest of his career.
 
-  Sophomore outfielder Jevon Mason has recorded a hit in 18 of his last 21 games.  On Friday against Belmont, Mason tallied his sixth 3-hit game of the season.
 
-  Senior southpaw Dylan Dodd will get the ball in game one.  Dodd owns a 5-1 record with a 2.84 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 63 and one-third innings pitched.  His 79 strikeouts are the second most in the conference. Dodd has pitched six-plus innings in eight of his 10 starts this season and has struck out at least eight batters in nine of the 10 games.  Sophomore right-hander Bryce Grossius will start game two of the series.  He is 3-1 this season with a 7.26 ERA.  Grossius will be making his fourth appearance and fourth start of the season.  He has struck out 38 in 31 innings.  The game three starter has not been determined.
