Colonels Host Ohio For Three-Game Baseball Series This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky will play host to Ohio for a three-game series this weekend at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
The start time for Friday's series opener has been changed to 3 p.m.  Game two on Saturday will start at 3 p.m. and Sunday's series finale will get underway at 1 p.m.
 
On Friday, fans will receive a FREE EKU baseball mug with the purchase of hot chocolate at the concession stand.  On Saturday, the first 250 fans will receive an EKU baseball schedule magnet.  Sunday is Kids Day.  All kids 12 and under will receive FREE admission and get to run the bases after the game.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU leads the all-time series with Ohio 8-4.
 
-  The teams last played each other on April 5, 2016 in Richmond.  The Bobcats earned a 10-4 win.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU beat Kentucky State, 15-0 in seven innings, on Wednesday to improve to 1-3 on the season.
 
-  The Colonels finished the game against KSU with six doubles and 10 walks.  Four Eastern Kentucky pitchers combined for the shutout, striking out 10.
 
-  Outfielder Kendal Ewell leads the ASUN Conference with a .538 batting average and is tied for second in slugging (1.000).  He was 5-for-10 in the series at Mercer and went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs against Kentucky State.
 
Niko Leontarakis is tied for first in the ASUN with a 0.00 ERA and tied for second with 10 strikeouts.
 
-  Closer Will Brian joined 65 others from across the nation on the watch list for the 2022 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award.
 
Jalen Jones finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs against Kentucky State.  Sebastian Greico went 1-for-1 with three walks, two runs and three RBIs.  Max Williams scored three runs while going 1-for-3 with two walks.
 
Bryce Travis will get the ball for game one, Rese Brown is scheduled to start game two and Rian Yates will start game three against Ohio.  Travis is 0-0 with an 18.00 ERA after giving up two runs on two hits in one inning of relief at Mercer.  Brown tossed three innings against Mercer and has an 0-1 record with a 12.00 ERA.  He struck out five while allowing four earned runs.  Yates is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA.  He allowed three runs on four hits in four innings and struck out six in his start at Mercer.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Ohio is off to a 1-2 start to the season.  The Bobcats lost two of three at South Carolina Upstate over the weekend.
 
-  After winning the season-opener, 9-6, Ohio was out-scored 22-4 in the next two games.
 
-  Isaiah Peterson, a senior outfielder, has a team best .455 batting average and has scored two runs.
 
-  Junior catcher Alex Finney leads the team in RBIs with four.
 
-  Ohio committed 11 errors in its first three games.
 
-  Eddie Kutt IV will get the ball for game one of the series.  The 6-foot-3, senior right-hander is 0-0 this season with a 1.69 ERA.  He allowed five runs in five and one-third innings at USC Upstate, but only one run was earned.  He struck out four and did not walk any batters.  Jack Liberatore is scheduled to start game two.  The 6-foot-3, redshirt senior righty is 0-1 with an 18.00 ERA.  He has five strikeouts and no walks in three innings of work.  The game three starter will be Jacob Tate.  The 6-foot-6, redshirt sophomore left-hander is 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA.  In his start against USC Upstate, he allowed four unearned runs, one walk and struck out one in two and two-thirds innings.
