Colonels Ready to Make Noise at First-Ever ASUN Indoor Track and Field Championships

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team will compete at its first-ever ASUN Indoor Championships February 25-26 on Liberty University's campus in Lynchburg, Virginia.
 
The meet gets underway on Friday at 9 a.m. with the heptathlon. Field events begin at 1 p.m. and the track starts popping at 3 p.m. Friday will conclude around 8 p.m. with the distance medley relays.
 
On Saturday, the heptathlon continues at 8:30 a.m., followed by field events at 10 a.m. and track finals at 12 p.m. The championships will wrap up around 3:30 p.m. with the 4x400 meter relays.
 
The meet will air live on ESPN3, with the broadcast running from 3-6:30 p.m. on Friday and noon-3:30 p.m. on Saturday. ESPN3 will broadcast the track events that take place during those time periods live, with taped coverage of multis, field events and Friday night's 5Ks and DMRs interspersed in between.

Women to Watch
 
Madison Fleming – No. 3 in the ASUN in the 60-meter hurdles (8.68).
 
Emma García-Palencia – won gold in the heptathlon at the 2021 OVC Outdoor Championships … won silver in the pentathlon at the 2020 OVC Indoor Championships.
 
Grace Kilroy – No. 8 in the ASUN in the 3,000m (9:45.21).
 
Jone Zabaleta Larranaga – No. 2 in the ASUN in the 3,000m (9:26.28) … that time is the 3rd fastest in EKU history … also No. 6 in the conference in the mile (4:54.13) … was a first team All-ASUN cross country performer in the fall.
 
Aniya Matthews – No. 2 in the ASUN in the 200 meters (24.29)
 
Quantasia Perry – No. 1 in the ASUN in the 200 meters (EKU record 24.00) … No. 2 in the conference in the 60 meters (7.52) … Perry won silver in the 200 meters at the 2021 OVC Outdoor Championships … she qualified for the 2021 NCAA East Preliminaries with a school record time of 23.59.
 
Felicia Phillips – broke the EKU indoor 400 meters record with a time of 55.33 on Feb. 12 at the Music City Challenge … that time is the fastest in the ASUN this season.
 
Alicia Recio – No. 7 in the ASUN in the 800 meters (2:11.75) … that time is the 5th fastest in EKU history … also No. 8 in the conference in the 400 meters (57.00).
 
Christian "Joy" Scott – No. 6 in the ASUN in the 200 meters (24.88)
 
Laura Taborda – No. 3 in the ASUN in the 3,000m (9:27.07) … that time is the 5th fastest in EKU history … EKU record holder in the 3,000m steeplechase (10:22.08) … was an NCAA All-Southeast Region performer in cross country last fall.
 
4x400 Meter Relay Team – Quantasia Perry, Aniya Matthews, Felicia Phillips and Alicia Recio broke EKU's 32-year record in this event with a 3:46.63 at the Music City Challenge on Feb. 12 … that time is the fastest in the ASUN this season.

Men to Watch
 
Isaiah Allen – No. 5 in the ASUN in the long jump (23-3.25) and No. 7 in the triple jump (46-7.5).
 
Jan Badia-Celma – No. 3 in the ASUN in the 800m (1:51.68) and No. 4 in the mile (4:06.14) … his mile time is one of the fastest ever clocked by an EKU freshman.
 
Samuel Carter – No. 2 in the ASUN in the triple jump (47-11.75) and No. 7 in the long jump (22-11.75).
 
Pedro García-Palencia – No. 8 in the ASUN in the 3,000m (8:15.44).
 
Ahmed Jaziri – No. 1 in the ASUN in both the mile (3:59.87 – converted) and 3,000m (7:47.34) … his 3,000m time is the EKU record and it ranks No. 20 in the NCAA this season … it broke the Tunisian national record and it gives Jaziri the World Championships standard in the event … Jaziri was a first team All-American in the indoor 3,000 meters last season (finished 6th at the NCAA Indoor Championships).
 
Austin Keeling – No. 8 in the ASUN in the triple jump (45-11.25).
 
Enock Kipchumba – No. 3 in the ASUN in the 5,000m (14:30.13).
  
Jackson Siddall – No. 6 in the ASUN in the 3,000m (8:12.59) and No. 8 in the mile (4:09.04).
 
Griffin Staude – No. 7 in the ASUN in the 5,000m (14:56.24).
