RICHMOND, Ky. – Three Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes will compete at the Camel City Invitational on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Laura Taborda and
Jone Zabaleta Larranaga will race in the women's 3,000 meters at 11:35 a.m.
Ahmed Jaziri will compete in the men's elite mile at 3:18 p.m.

A majority of the EKU track and field team was scheduled to compete at the Bellarmine Classic on Friday; however, that trip has been canceled due to inclement weather in Louisville.

Zabaleta Larranaga opened her indoor season by running a 4:54.1 mile at the Jim Green Invitational on January 15. That time currently ranks No. 5 in the ASUN. She finished fourth at the ASUN Cross Country Championships in November and was named first team all-conference.

Saturday will be Taborda's 2022 indoor debut. The native of Portugal is the EKU record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:22.08) and was an NCAA All-Southeast Region performer in cross country this past fall.

Jaziri is the reigning ASUN Male Track Athlete of the Week after running a 7:55.98 3K at the IU Relays last Saturday. That is the fastest time in the ASUN by nearly 12 seconds and it currently ranks No. 35 in the NCAA. This will be the first time the All-American has raced the indoor mile in his collegiate career.

Following this weekend's action, the track and field Colonels will split next weekend between the Music City Challenge in Nashville and the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina. Â
