RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University track and field teams will split this weekend between the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia and the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington.
EKU distance runners will compete at Virginia's Lannigan Field on Friday evening, covering the 1,500 meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase, and 5,000 meters. Notably, All-American
Ahmed Jaziri will make his season debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Jaziri is the EKU record holder in the steeplechase (8:32.9), and he finished 10
th in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last June in Eugene, Oregon.
Jone Zabaleta Larranaga – the ASUN women's indoor 3,000 meters champion – will look to improve on her 5,000 meters time of 16:20.52, which currently sits at No. 2 in the conference this season.
Sprinters, hurdlers, and field athletes will compete at Kentucky on Friday and Saturday. Action in Lexington gets underway at 2 p.m. on Friday and should wrap up with the 4x400 meter relays around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Quantasia Perry – the ASUN women's indoor 200 meters champion – will race the 100 meters on Saturday. She currently sits at No. 2 in the conference this season with a time of 11.61.
Madison Fleming – the ASUN women's indoor 60-meter hurdles silver medalist – will compete in the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday. Fleming ranks No. 3 in the conference with a time of 14.07.
The track and field Colonels are back in action next weekend at the Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville.
