Track and Field Set for First-Ever ASUN Outdoor Championships this Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Eastern Kentucky University track and field teams will compete at their first-ever ASUN Outdoor Championships May 12-14 at the University of North Florida's Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium.
 
The meet gets underway on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with multi events. Field events begin at 1:30 p.m. Races on the track commence at 5:35 p.m. Thursday is capped by the 10,000 meters finals, which should wrap up around 10 p.m.
 
Multi events continue on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Friday's track action is highlighted by the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which begin at 6:45 p.m.
 
Championship Saturday kicks off with field events at 11 a.m. Track finals begin with the 4x100-meter relays at 12:45 p.m. and end with the 4x400-meter relays at 3:45 p.m.
 
The EKU women finished fourth at the ASUN Indoor Championships in February, while the men's team took sixth.
 
 
Women to Watch
 
Madison Fleming – No. 3 in the conference in the 100-meter hurdles (13.76) … that time is No. 5 all-time at EKU … took silver in the 60-meter hurdles at the ASUN Indoor Championships in February.
 
Emma García-Palencia – Ranked No. 1 in conference in the heptathlon with a school-record score of 5,016 points, which she recorded at the Duke Invitational in April … won silver in the pentathlon at the ASUN Indoor Championships in February.
 
Jone Zabaleta Larranaga – No. 2 in the ASUN in the 5,000 meters (16:02.5) and No. 6 in the 1,500 meters (4:26.8) … her 5K time is the second-fastest in EKU history … won gold in the 3,000 meters at the ASUN Indoor Championships in February.
 
Aniya Matthews – Ranked No. 6 in the conference in the 200 meters (24.23).
 
Joy Nwokike – No. 5 in the conference in the triple jump (38-11.5) … that mark is No. 2 all-time at EKU.
 
Quantasia Perry – Ranked No. 2 in the 100 meters (11.61) and No. 4 in the 200 meters (23.82) … scored 20 points at the ASUN Indoor Championships, winning gold in the 200 meters, silver in the 60 meters and silver in the 4x400-meter relay … is the EKU record holder in both the outdoor (23.62) and indoor (23.78) 200 meters.
 
Saskia Pingpank – No. 4 in the conference in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:46.1).
 
Laura Taborda – Ranked No. 1 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a school-record time of 10:12.53, which she ran at the Raleigh Relays back in March … also No. 5 in the 1,500 meters (4:24.52)  and 5,000 meters (16:46.12) … bronze medalist in the 5,000 meters at the ASUN Indoor Championships.
 
Anouk van Gils – No. 3 in the conference in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:34.47).

4x100 Meter Relay – Fleming, Matthews, Perry, and Christian "Joy" Scott are currently ranked No. 2 in the ASUN with a time of 45.75, which they teamed up to run at the Duke Invitational in April ... that is the second fastest time in school history.
 
 
Men to Watch
 
Samuel Carter – No. 4 in the conference in the triple jump (48-0.5).
 
Nikodem Dworczak – No. 6 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:10.1) … also No. 9 in the 5,000 meters (14:14.88) … will make his season debut in the 10,000 meters on Thursday night.
 
Ahmed Jaziri – No. 1 in the country in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:24.33); however, he won't race in that event this week … No. 4 in the 5,000 meters (13:58.3), and he will also be making his season debut in the 1,500 meters … silver medalist in the mile at the ASUN Indoor Championships in February.
 
Charles Kipchumba – No. 8 in the 5,000 meters (14:14.44) … will make his season debut in the 10,000 meters on Thursday night.
 
Alex Leshan – No. 7 in the 800 meters (1:50.27).
 
Ahmed Sayf Kadri – No. 4 in the conference in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:57.59) … also No. 9 in the 1,500 meters (3:46.65).
 
Jackson Siddall – No. 7 in the 5,000 meters (14:12.71) and No. 8 in the 1,500 meters (3:46.39) … his 1,500 meters time is the fifth fastest in school history … bronze medalist in the 3,000 meters at the ASUN Indoor Championships.
