HOPEWELL, N.J. – EKU's
Antwainette Walker has been tabbed to the 2024 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Watchlist presented by Her Hoops Stats, announced by the site on Wednesday morning.
The award recognizes the top 25 mid-major players in the country entering the 2023-24 season.
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be
"mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this
award, and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC. In January the
15-player midseason watch list will be announced, followed by 10 semifinalists announced in
February. The five finalists will be announced in early March, with the winner announced around the Final Four.
Walker, who this offseason has been named ESPN's frontrunner for Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, and ASUN Preseason All-Conference, adds the 2024 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watchlist to her list of accolades this October.
The Lisle, Ill. native is coming off a stellar campaign last season that garnished her two ASUN Postseason Awards, including Newcomer of the Year Honors as well as being tabbed to the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award by the National Basketball Hall of Fame and the 2023 Dawn Staley Award, hand-picked by the legendary Dawn Staley herself.
She was also named the Kentucky Women's Player of the Year by the Herald-Leader, the second EKU women's basketball student-athlete to win the honors in program history.
Last season, Walker nearly averaged a double-double with 21.0 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She scored double-figures in 16 games while finding double-doubles in 15 games. She had a career-high 33 points against Austin Peay and scored 20-or-more points in 14 other games.
She led the ASUN Conference in over 10 statistical categories and was top 15 in the nation in six of those categories.
This year's watch list includes representatives from 23 teams and 16 conferences.
Walker and the Colonels are gearing up for the 2023-24 season which begins on Monday, Nov. 6 against Hanover College at Baptist Health Arena at 7 p.m. EST. Single game and season tickets are available for purchase
