Women’s Basketball Set for 2023 ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout

Second Appearance in the Tournament

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – After its first 4-0 start to a season since 1994, EKU women's basketball heads to The Last Frontier to play in the 2023 ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout alongside No. 4 Utah, UAB, and host school Alaska Anchorage from Nov. 18-19 at Alaska Airlines Center.

EKU begins play on Saturday, Nov. 18 against UAB in the opening round.  Tipoff is scheduled for 9:15 EST and can be viewed on YouTube.

The Colonels will conclude play on Sunday, Nov. 19 against either No. 4 Utah or Alaska Anchorage in the championship or consolation matchup.  Fans are encouraged to follow along on social media or keep up with the tournament here.

EKU won a midweek matchup against Evansville, 77-75, to move to an untouched 4-0 record for the first time in 30 seasons.  The Colonels were led by Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Player of the Year Antwainette Walker, who scored a career-high 38 points on 15 made field goals.  Her 38 points were the sixth-most points scored in a single game by a Colonel in program history.

In two games this season, Walker is averaging 26 points per game while shooting 53 percent from the floor.

EKU guards Alice Recanati (17.3), Ivy Turner (12.8), and Brie Crittendon (10.8) are the other three Colonels averaging double figures through the team's first four games.  Forward Sierra McCullough is first in the NCAA in rebounds with 47 and is averaging 11.8 per game.

Entering the Great Alaska Shootout, EKU is top 50 in the country in scoring offense (82.8), assists per game (17.8), turnover margin (9.75), forced turnovers per game (24.7), and offensive rebounds per game (17.2).

This weekend marks the second time EKU has played in the Great Alaska Shootout. The Colonels went 0-2 in the tournament in 2002 dropping games to Indiana (49-61) and UAA (74-77) on their home floor.

With a win over UAB, EKU would move to 5-0 to open its season for the first time in program history. Additionally, EKU head coach Greg Todd would move to 300 NCAA DI Career Wins with the team's next victory.
