Women’s Basketball Ends Week Against Tennessee

Seeking First Win in Knoxville Since 1976

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball program hits the road after two home wins this week with a date on Rocky Top against Tennessee on Sunday, Dec. 10 at Food City Center.
 
Sunday's battle is scheduled to tip at 2:02 p.m. EST inside Thompson-Boling Arena.  Fans can purchase lower bowl tickets for just $15 on Ticketmaster.
 
Those not able to make the trip down I-75 can watch the game on SEC Network+ with Andy Brock, Kamera Harris, and Gabriella Genereaux on the call.  Fans are also encouraged to tune in via 92.5 WEKY (Richmond area) with Wes Chandler courtside on the air.
 
EKU (8-1) is coming off two wins this week against Simmons College and Miami University.  At 8-1, the Colonels are off to their best start to a season since 1976 with the team's only loss coming against No. 4 ranked Utah in the 2023 Great Alaska Shootout Championship.

- EKU enters the week still receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top 25 poll.
- As a team, EKU is top 20 in the NCAA in scoring offense (83.3), 13th in assists per game (20.0), 6th in turnover margin (9.22), and forced turnovers per game (23.22).
- Antwainette Walker continues to lead the squad with 24.8 points per game shooting 45 percent from the floor.  She's a one-time Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week this year.
- EKU's backcourt, Ivy Turner and Alice Recanati, are both averaging over five assists per game.  Turner is top 20 in the country in assist/turnover ratio and Recanati is top 20 in total assists.
- Brie Crittendon made a career-high five three-pointers and career-high 19 points in the Colonels win over Miami (Ohio).
- Over her last three games, freshman Kailani Lindsey has scored 16 points, brought down 16 rebounds, and has five blocks.

All-Time vs. Tennessee
- Sunday's meeting at Rocky Top is the 11th matchup between EKU and Tennessee, the Lady Vols claim the all-time series 9-1.
- EKU's last win over Tennessee came in 1976 in Knoxville (89-68) against the legendary late Pat Summit.
- The Colonels are 1-5 all-time in Knoxville, Tennessee claimed the last meeting in the series last season by a score of 105-71.
 
Scouting the Lady Vols
- Tennessee is one of the most storied programs in NCAA women's college basketball, in program history they have won over 1,400 games, have 40 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, eight NCAA Championships, 17 Southeastern Conference Championships, 22 All-Americans, and 10 Olympians.
- Tennessee enters Sunday's game with a 4-5 overall record after three consecutive losses to No. 18 Notre Dame, No. 16 Ohio State, and Middle Tennessee on the road.
- Tennessee's four wins on the season have come against No. 22 Oklahoma, Troy, Memphis, and Florida A&M.
- Head Coach Kellie Harper has an overall record of 92-44 in five seasons at the helm.
- Junior guard/forward Sara Puckett leads the Lady Vols with 12.7 points per game.
- The Lady Vols have been without leading scorer Rickea Jackson, who is widely tabbed a WNBA prospect, since Nov. 9 against Florida State.  Throughout her two games played, Jackson put up a steady 22.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.
- Tennessee has three student-athletes listed at 6-foot-3 or above in Karoline Striplin (6'3), Tamari Key (6'6), and Jillian Hollingshead (6'5).
