Colonels Heading To Knoxville To Face No. 12 Tennessee Tuesday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Coming off a road win at Jacksonville University on Saturday, the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will play at No. 12 University of Tennessee on Tuesday.
 
The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will air live on the SEC Network Plus.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU is 13-18 and 4-8 in the ASUN after Saturday's 5-4 win in 14 innings at Jacksonville.
 
-  The Colonel pitching staff posted a 3.31 ERA during the series against the Dolphins, striking out 30 and walking only 23 in 32 and two-thirds innings.
 
-  In his last three games, Charlie Ludwick is batting .333 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored.  He also has drawn four walks and has a .500 on-base percentage.
 
-  The Colonels are third in the nation in double plays turned with 34.
 
-  Right-handed junior Rian Yates is set to start on the mound for the Colonels.  He is 0-0 this season with an 8.47 ERA over 17 innings.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Tennessee is 22-10 on the season and 5-7 in the Southeastern Conference.  The Volunteers lost two of three at home against No. 2 Florida over the weekend, but beat the Gators 14-2 in the series finale.
 
-  First baseman Blake Burke leads UT in batting average (.325) and home runs (11).  He is second on the team with 29 RBIs.  Second baseman Christian Moore is hitting .320 with a team-high 34 runs and 12 stolen bases.
 
-  Tennessee's pitching staff has a 2.99 team ERA for the season, the second lowest in the nation.  The Volunteers have struck out 362 batters in 274 innings and have walked only 78.

-  Zander Sechrist will start for UT.  The junior left-hander is 0-0 this season with a 1.37 ERA.  He has made 10 appearances and six starts.  Sechrist has struck out 19 and walked two in 19 and two-thirds innings.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Tennessee leads the all-time series 17-2.  The Volunteers have won five straight since EKU picked up an 8-7 win in Knoxville on March 3, 2010.
 
-  UT won the most recent meeting, 7-1, on March 15, 2022.  The Colonels held the Volunteers, ranked No. 2 in the nation at the time, to the second-fewest runs scored to that point of the season.  Conner Davis hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth.  Sechrist started for UT and allowed one hit, one run and one walk while striking out seven in five innings on the mound.
