EKU Taking Winning Streak To Xavier For Midweek Game

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Riding a four-game winning streak, Eastern Kentucky University will travel North to play at Xavier on Tuesday.
 
The game will begin at 3 p.m. and air live on FloSports.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (19-21, 9-9 ASUN) reached .500 in the ASUN Conference with a three-game road sweep of North Alabama.  The Colonels started their four-game winning streak with a win at Marshall.
 
-  Over the last eight games, EKU is averaging 9.8 runs per game.
 
-  In a three-game sweep of North Alabama, EKU batters drew 32 walks and posted a .452 on-base percentage.  EKU is second in the ASUN, and 26th in the nation, with 222 walks drawn.  Xavier is 27th in the country in fewest walks allowed per nine innings (3.59).
 
-  Michael Schuler hasn't allowed a run in his last 10 and one-third innings.  He started at North Alabama on Sunday and limited the Lions to four hits and one walk in five innings.  He struck out a season-high eight.
 
-  Rian Yates will get the start for the Colonels.  The junior righty is 1-1 with a 7.66 ERA, having made 10 appearances and seven starts this season.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Xavier is 25-15 overall, 7-2 in the Big East Conference and ranked 45th in the NCAA RPI.  The Musketeers are coming off a road sweep of Villanova.  Xavier out-scored Nova 31-8.
 
-  First baseman Matt McCormick leads the team with a .343 batting average and is one of three Musketeers with 10 home runs on the season.  Outfielder Andrew Walker has a team-best 35 runs scored, 36 RBIs and 15 stolen bases while hitting .316.  Shortstop Jack Housinger is batting just .211 but 18 of his 32 hits have been for extra-bases, including 10 home runs.
 
-  Xavier has a .286 team batting average, has hit 68 home runs and is scoring 7.2 runs per game.  XU is 25th in the country in home runs.

-  Jack Niedringhaus will make his first start of the season.  The freshman left-hander hasn't allowed an earned run in four relief appearances spanning four and one-third innings.  He has given up five hits, hasn't walked anyone and has struck out seven.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The all-time series is tied 31-31.  The Colonels have won three straight against the Musketeers.  The most recent meeting came on April 19, 2022 in Richmond, with EKU winning 3-2 in 11 innings.
 
-  Michael Goehrig raced home on a wild pitch to win the last meeting in extra innings.  Logan Thomason gave EKU a 2-1 lead with a RBI double in the fifth.  Jared Cushing tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
