EKU Set To Host First Place Lipscomb For Three This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University will host first place Lipscomb for a three-game ASUN Conference series on Heroes Weekend.

Friday's series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m.  Game two of the series has been changed to 4 p.m. on Saturday.  The series finale has been changed to Sunday at 11 a.m.  All three games of the series will air live on ESPN+.
 
Baseball Bingo returns on Friday, with the first three winners taking home EKU baseball mini bats.  Saturday will be Military Appreciation Day.  Sunday will be First Responders Day, Little League Day and Kids Day.  All kids 12 and under receive FREE admission and get to participate in the post-game autograph session and run the bases.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU is 19-22 overall and 9-9 in ASUN Conference games.  The Colonels are 8-4 in their last 12 league games, including a three-game sweep at North Alabama last weekend.
 
-  Will King is hitting .373 with four home runs, 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored over the last 16 games.  He is slugging .672 and has a .450 on-base percentage.
 
-  EKU has turned 42 double plays this season, the second-most in the nation.
 
-  Miguel Larreal is eighth in the ASUN with a .357 batting average.
 
-  Sophomore left-hander Isaac Milburn will make the Friday night start.  He is 3-3 with a 6.28 ERA over 43 innings.  Junior newcomer Luke Reed is scheduled to start game two of the series.  The right-hander is 1-2 with a 4.99 ERA.  In 30 and two-thirds innings of work he has allowed just 28 hits and struck out 29.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Lipscomb is 21-20 overall and tied for first place in the ASUN with a 13-5 league mark.  The Bisons have played six conference series, winning two of three in five of them and sweeping North Alabama.  Lipscomb's series wins have come against Jacksonville, Queens, Liberty, Stetson and Bellarmine.
 
-  Designated hitter/catcher Austin Kelly leads Lipscomb in average (.326) and home runs (15), and is second in RBIs (41).  However, Kelly hasn't played in the last four games.  Third baseman Trace Willhoite has hit 12 home runs and has a team-best 45 RBIs to go along with a .284 average.
 
-  Lipscomb is 23rd in the nation with 70 home runs this season, 26th in stolen bases (78) and 39th in walks (217).  The Colonels rank 30th in walks (226).  The Bisons pitching staff is 29th in the NCAA in hists allowed per nine innings (8.09).
 
-  Hayden Frank has made 16 appearances out of the bullpen and has compiled a 1.19 ERA with three saves.  In 22 and two-thirds innings, Frank has struck out 30, walked eight and allowed just three runs on 12 hits.

-  Logan Van Treeck is scheduled to start game one of the series.  The junior lefthander is 4-4 with a 3.67 ERA.  In 49 innings, he has struck out 65 batters and walked only four.  Braydon Tucker, a grad transfer from Indiana, will start the second game of the series.  The righty is 4-0 with a 3.51 ERA.  He has struck out 58 batters in 56 and one-third innings, and walked 21.  The game three starter has not been determined.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Lipscomb leads the all-time series 8-3.  The Bisons won five of six against the Colonels last season.
 
-  In the last meeting between the two teams, on May 15, 2022 in Richmond, Lipscomb earned a 7-4 win.  Will King finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
