EKU Baseball Riding 6-Game Winning Streak To Bowling Green

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University will conclude a stretch of six straight road games and will be looking for a seventh straight victory on Tuesday at Western Kentucky.
 
First pitch at Nick Denes field in Bowling Green is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU is 25-24 overall and 13-11 in ASUN games.  The Colonels' six game winning streak includes a win over first place Lipscomb, wins at Northern Kentucky and Morehead State, and a three-game sweep at Queens over the weekend.
 
-  EKU is tied for second in the ASUN and is 34th in the nation with 78 home runs.  The Colonels have hit at least one home run in 10 straight games and have hit 42 in the last 19 games.  EKU belted nine dingers in three games at Queens.
 
-  With road wins at Northern Kentucky, Morehead State, and a road sweep at Queens last week, EKU (170) has raised its RPI by 37 spots.  WKU's RPI is 167.
 
-  In five games last week, DJ Sullivan hit .526 with six runs, two doubles, one home run and eight RBIs.  He slugged .789, and with four walks had a .609 on-base percentage.
 
-  Freshman Nathan Lawson will start on the mound for the Colonels.  The right-hander is 3-1 this season with a 6.27 ERA.  In his last start, Lawson allowed two runs on three hits in four innings at Morehead State.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Western Kentucky is 27-21 overall and 12-12 in Conference USA.  The Hilltoppers won two of three at Florida International over the weekend and are 10-2 in their last 12 league games.  WKU is 1-2 against ASUN teams this season, having lost at home to Bellarmine (9-7) and having split a home-and-home with Austin Peay (8-2, 11-12).
 
-  Second baseman Tristin Garcia leads the team with a .335 batting average.  He is second on the team with 31 RBIs and tied for third with 31 runs.
 
-  As a team, WKU is hitting .290 with 62 stolen bases.  The Hilltoppers have a 4.54 team ERA.  Western Kentucky is 38th in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings (3.79).  The Colonels are 27th in the country in walks drawn (265).
 
-  CJ Weins, a right-handed grad transfer from South Carolina, leads the team in appearances (22) and saves (8).  He is 0-2 with a 4.68 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 25 innings.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  WKU leads the all-time series 50-38-3.  The last time the two teams met, on March 8, 2022 in Richmond, the Colonels earned a 6-4 win.  The last time the two programs met in Bowling Green, the Hilltoppers pulled out a 4-3 win in 14 innings on May 18, 2021.
 
-  In the game last season in Richmond, Logan Thomason had four hits, two runs and two RBIs.  Will King hit a solo home run and finished 2-for-5 with a run and two driven in.  Andrew Delaney had three hits in four at bats and scored a run for Western Kentucky.
